Notation comparison table

Notation comparison table

This exercise is a personal view based on my experience participating with many Romanian dance teachers. I listed the features that seem to be important during their teaching:
1) The rhythm of the feet.
2) The path and inter-relationship of moving with the others in the dance group as opposed to moving as an individual.
3) Particular movements of steps, legs and arms.
4) Use of the torso in moving.
5) Up and down motion of the body, similar to the Scandinavian idea of “svikt”.
6) The absolute positioning of arms and legs (called “gestures” in Labanotation).
I tabulated my comments against these features and graded the notation schemes accordingly. This shows that the Romanian system is integrally tailored to the dance needs particular to the context of current Romanian dance teachers.
