In 2024 the current Ilmington Morris celebrates 50 years since its revival. In 1974 Paul Bryan, Stan Jones and Chris Green (my father) met to discuss restarting Morris dancing in Ilmington. However, the history of Morris dancing in Ilmington can be traced back some two centuries before this revival. Although many authors of articles and books about Morris dancing have touched on the Morris dancing in Ilmington there is no one collated history and there are many ‘myths’ propagated. I have revisited the ‘history’, with the aid of the easier access to historic information through the internet, to mark the 50th anniversary of the current Ilmington Morris revival.
